This is actually a story of two halves... The morning was unbelievably windy, and I rigged the 4.0 and 77l with some trepidation. Went out on a run, not too bad, but was heading upwind quite a bit. Fell in gybing, then came back - holy cr*p! Incredible scarey speed, really difficult holding on, argh argh argh. Adjusted the down/outhaul a bit, since clearly a bit overpowered... Had another run, another missed gybe (although close!) and sploosh. This time problems waterstarting, the wind was so huge, and hitting the top of the swell increased it, so had problems getting rig up safely and then riding off. So ended up being washed towards corner, but eventually found a lull, waterstarted and got back. Phew. Decided discretion the better part of valour, went in, changed, got warm.
The afternoon saw the wind drop a fraction, so togged up, went out and played in the waves a bit, quite a satisfying session, even though considerably hard work, and held on too much, thereby tiring the arms out (see tomorrow's entry!).
Overall, a pleasing day, since my performance in the morning was pretty good given the conditions, and the afternoon too.
